3rd May, 2016 New Delhi A high level delegation of Forum for Constitutional Rights of Tamangs & Limboos of Sikkim

3rd May, 2016 New Delhi A high level delegation of Forum for Constitutional Rights of Tamangs & Limboos of Sikkim (FORCOTALIS) led by its President, Shri Ashok Kumar Subba (Tsong) called on the Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh at his residence at 17 Akbar Road, New Delhi. Though the Tamang & Limboo communities of Sikkim had been granted Schedule Tribe status way back in 2003 by the then NDA government, they have been continuously deprived of seat reservations in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly so far. Three General elections in 2004, 2009,2014 have taken place without the reservation of Assembly seats for Tamangs & Limboos. The Forum (FORCOTALIS) formed in 2004, January have been raising the issues since then. Shri Ashok Kumar Subba (Tsong) President, FORCOTALIS, submitted a memorandum and strongly asserted the need to address the injustice meted out against their constitutional rights continously. He has further demanded this genuine issue to be solved immediately and not wait till 2019. Shri Subba thanked the Union Home Minister for his Party in bringing up the matter under the purview of the Apex Court in New Delhi and also expressed gratefulness in setting up a Committee headed by Shri Ashok Pai, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India, for examining and recommending Schedule Tribe status to the eleven left-out communities namely, Bhujel, Gurung, Mangar, Newar, Jogi, Khas, Rai, Sunwar, Thami, Yakha(Dewan) & Dhimal living in Sikkim and other Gorkha dominanted States and areas.
